              EDMONTON TRAPPERS
               POST-GAME NOTES

              SEPTEMBER 6, 2004
              GAME OVER

              EDMONTON, AB
              – Center fielder Fred
Lewis was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI as
the Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Edmonton Trappers 9-2 Monday
night at Grizzlies Stadium in Fresno.  I’ve written eight seasons
worth of these post-game reports and started most everyone with a
sentence similar to the one above.  But this time it’s different,
this time it’s the last time.  For much of those eight seasons
I’ve clogged up this opening paragraph with a bunch of stats.
Edmonton Sun reporter Gerry Prince used to refer to me as “The
Minister of Minutia.” Apparently he was trying to tell me that I
was providing too much information, some that might even be
considered useless.  Well consider this:   more...

  Volume 4; Edition #24 (September 7, 2004) THOUGHTS ON
BART GIAMATTIAND THE END OF TRIPLE-A BASEBALL IN EDMONTON
Late Sunday afternoon, just under three days after the
Trappers taken part in what may well be the last Pacific Coast League game
ever to be played at TELUS Field, I sat by a mountain lake in British
Columbia. There were definite signs of autumn around me. On a few of the trees
across the water, patches of yellow marked the beginning of the end of the
summer. The sun sparkled off the ripples, but it was lower on the horizon than
it had been a few weeks earlier. And when it briefly disappeared behind a
cloud, there was a noticeable chill in the air.    more...

              THANKS FOR THE
              MEMORIES
In the past few days several fans have e-mailed us with their
thought and memories of the past 24 seasons.  If you would
like to be included on this page please send an e-mail to

              trappers@trappersbaseball.com.  Thank you for your
              support!

Even though I have always been a fan of the game June 11, 2004 was the
first time I ever sat in the bleachers at  Telus field and watched a Trappers
game.  I witnessed the only no hitter in Trappers' history and was emotionally
moved when Scott Downs' team mates raced onto the field to congratulate him.
Over the remainder of the season I attended a number of games at the phone
booth including almost every inning of the final home stand. For the rest of
the summer I felt like I couldn't get to the ball park fast enough, walking to
the park telling my girlfriend, "Hurry I don't want to miss the opening
pitch!" I can still feel the warmth of the sun on my face as I sat in the
stands on a summer's night  while the Trappers took the field. Trappers' baseball felt like the one pure thing left in professional
sports. In today's world of rape trials, lockouts and even steroid scandals in
other sports, the boys of summer never failed to let me down. Triple A
baseball seemed to offer something different. At times the players appeared to
be ten feet tall, playing with their heart, not their egos. Watching the kids
in the stands worshiping guys who still play for the love of the game, not the
almighty dollar made me realize that this team truly made this town the City
of Champions. Even though I have witnessed a major league game,  CFL Labor Day
showdown and even the Heritage Classic, I will never forget my first
experience at the Telus field. My only regret is that I had not seen a
Trappers game sooner. Thanks for a great summer of memories. Tyson Ewanchuk Edmonton, AB
